Lost Landscapes. Vallvidrera, Discovering Collserola

Introductory walk through Vallvidrera and its surroundings. We will depart from the FGC Sarrià station with a brief explanation of how the railway and the funicular brought Collserola closer to Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century, offering leisure and contact with nature to the women of Barcelona. Sarrià focused its urban development interests on Vallvidrera, a municipality annexed to Sarrià in 1890, which in turn was annexed to Barcelona in 1921.

The growth of Vallvidrera began at the end of the 19th century, with the construction of mobility and service infrastructures, six hotels and inns. The bourgeoisie who spent their summers in the area led to the urbanisation of the mountain range with their chalets and towers. From the mid-20th century onwards, demographic growth led to the construction of small services and facilities, improving the quality of life of its residents and causing the population to settle, so that growth was no longer merely seasonal and linked to tourism.
