RehaBCN. Casa Mercaders

Guided tour of a residential renovation designed by Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue, members of the studio EMBT. The architect, together with the programme curator, will lead the visits and present the key aspects of the intervention.

House in the historic centre of Barcelona, where behind a false wall Gothic arches and an angel-shaped capital are revealed. The intervention arises from the discovery and enhancement of these historical layers, making visible the intensity of use accumulated over time.

The project proposes living with the existing structure—walls and floors reused from the Gothic period to the present—working through processes of cleaning and revealing. The discovered elements are arranged on a neutral base, bringing hidden fragments to light.

The house is organised as a dynamic system, almost like a chessboard, where objects are placed and moved according to rules defined by the space itself: the floor, which reorders the pieces, and the walls, which reveal their layers.

The result is an interior balanced between order and discovery, where time becomes present through use and materiality.

A total of 6 visit slots are scheduled, each lasting 20 minutes and accommodating 10 people. Participants are kindly asked to arrive 10 minutes in advance for an introduction and the distribution of informational materials. Waiting will take place outside the building, located at C. Mercaders 24, Barcelona.
