RehaBCN. Casa Taller “Contigo” - Casa Balarí

RehaBCN is a non-conventional exhibition proposal focused on distinctive housing refurbishment in Barcelona.

Guided tour of a residential renovation designed by Marcos Catalán and Marta García Orte. The architects themselves, together with the programme curator, will lead the visits and present the key aspects of the intervention.

The project proposes the making of a “tailored suit” for a ceramicist: “Contigo” (@contigo.ceramics), based on shared values such as a fascination with light, spatial flexibility, neutral tones, material austerity, and artisanal craftsmanship.

The intervention takes place in a ground-floor space in the Gràcia neighbourhood of Barcelona, previously occupied by a dimly lit carpentry workshop. The introduction of a new courtyard transforms the space, allowing natural light to enter and organising the domestic programme around it: living-dining-kitchen area, library-studio, and bedroom-bathroom.

The workshop, fully connected to the dwelling, is located on Passatge d’Alió with the intention of opening up to the city. Ceramics become the central material of the project: the flooring and some partitions are resolved in exposed brick, while the inhabitant completes the home through the production of ceramic pieces—washbasins, lamps, furniture, and everyday objects—that shape the space.

The dwelling thus becomes an extension of the workshop, a hybrid space between living, producing, and exhibiting, also functioning as a living catalogue of “Contigo Ceramics”. The project reinterprets the house-workshop typology, fostering the diversification of ground-floor uses and contributing to the social and economic activation of the surrounding environment.

A total of 6 visit slots are scheduled, each lasting 20 minutes and accommodating 10 people. Participants are kindly asked to arrive 10 minutes in advance for an introduction and the distribution of informational materials. Waiting will take place outside the building, located at Passatge Alió 42, Barcelona.
