L’Espai de la Paraula Printing Workshop: Putting the 25N into Words

L'Espai de la Paraula is a series of open sessions accompanying the residency developed at Casa Sagnier as part of the VOLTA 2026 residency programme. The activities aim to activate the installation created during the residency and encourage its use as a tool for expression, participation and community engagement.

Organised by Fundació Contorno Urbano in collaboration with Laboratorio Móvil / La Impremta Col·lectiva, the sessions provide a space for experimenting with typography, hand printing and graphic creation. Using typographic stamps, inks and different printing tools, participants can transform ideas, concerns, experiences and wishes into visible messages that engage with the shared space.

The session on 14 November will be specifically dedicated to 25N, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Taking this date as its framework, the workshop will create a safe space for reflection, expression and collective creation around gender-based violence and the ways in which it manifests itself in everyday life and public space.

Through conversation and creative activities, young women will be able to identify words, questions, experiences and viewpoints they wish to share. The process will focus not only on denouncing violence, but also on constructing narratives related to rights, boundaries, care, respect, mutual support, freedom and everyone’s right to inhabit shared spaces safely and free from violence.

The content emerging from the session will be translated into graphic language through typographic composition and hand printing. In this way, participants will create collective messages linked to 25N, turning words into a tool for making shared reflections, demands and imaginaries visible. These pieces will be able to activate the installation developed during the residency.

More than a printing workshop, L'Espai de la Paraula is conceived as an open laboratory in which graphic creation enables ideas to circulate and generates conversation. In this session, the framework of 25N reinforces the project’s critical and collective dimension, understanding artistic expression as a tool for highlighting issues, sharing perspectives and imagining more equal relationships free from violence.

At the same time, the proposal maintains the project’s open and adaptable methodology, allowing the installation to continue to be incorporated into Casa Sagnier’s programme and to evolve through participants’ contributions. The ultimate aim is to consolidate a space for shared creation where typography and words become tools for expression, critical thinking and participation, and where young women’s voices can occupy a visible place in the collective construction of the spaces they inhabit.
